I've signed up for the Ignoct Big Bang, or more specifically to the mini-bang. I have an idea, part-written, I can expand into a longer fic for that, so I feel confident in my ability to participate.

I'm progressing with my newest cosplay project (Lili from Tekken 7) which I'll wear at Viencon; I have gotten hella chunky in the past couple of years, and I don't currently feel comfortable in skinny anime boy outfits, so I'm going for a kickass girly girl, all ruffles and frills. I'm also planning on taking my Kimi cosplay from Love Nikki, and the other day I'll wear noncosplay and take pics of my gorgeous wife.

Otherwise in life: our new kitchen gets installed in a couple of weeks, and that's a major project that has involved much research and expense. I hope it turns out as well as we envision.

My wife and I finished up our long collaborative Office AU Ignoct fic, Hot Under The Collar, after a year-and-a-half hiatus. I'm pleased we got it completed! It was fun having these two sweethearts fall in love over coffee machines and pizza croissants and office parties.

I also finished an old Passportout/Fogg fic for 80 Days, Only The Bold Deserve Favour. 80 Days is an imaginative and clever reworking of Around The World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne, which can be found on Steam or as a phone app, and which I highly recommend playing a few times through to see exactly how far off-course you can go from the book text. I was struck with the desire to write this when I first played it on my phone, and then I took five years to come up with an acceptable way of expressing the final few paragraphs.

(It's a fic I doubt many people will read. But I'm glad I wrote it.)

I posted a fic -- Warmer, Richer, Deeper Sounds, an Ignoct piece that combines the reconstruction work of post-game Insomnia and my love of music, especially vinyl albums.

I also finished the fic for my last zine. I'm all caught up on zine obligations!

As we've been told it's fine to do so, I posted up my Sagefire piece (Blood) to AO3. It's not shippy, so it won't get much attention, but I liked writing Regency-style awful family dynamics for it.

I also received my copy of Sagefire! It's gorgeous.

Since my last post, I've written one of my outstanding two pieces and handed it in. The last one I need to crack on with; it's half-done and needs to be finished by next weekend.

Zine stuff

Aeternum's copies have been printed, not sure what's happening with the zine beyond that. Sagefire will be shipping out very soon and it looks amazing. Cosmogony might open sales soon? My Regalia Mixtape and Lucian Nights pieces are finished and handed in.

I'm mostly done with one of the two remaining zine pieces! It's only short but I'm aiming for a good impact.

Have yet to really get going on the last zine fic I need to write. I know what I want to write, it's just finding a way into that story. It's been an absurdly exhausting week or two, so I have a small extension just in case (though the next check-in isn't until the end of the month anyway).

I only have one more outstanding zine app I'm hoping to hear back from. There've been some very interesting zines mooted in FFXV fandom recently but I'm trying to not overcommit so I can write some non-zine things!

Meanwhile in purchases: I picked up a digital copy of the Noctis zine (it's lovely), and in non-FFXV-fandom news I also sprang for physical copies of a Fenris zine and a post-Dragon-Age-2 zine. Gimme that delicious DA2 content, mm.

Fic album meme! Assemble your tracklist according to the descriptions.

1. The popular, catchy one: I'm gonna go with Blind Faith, an FFXV Ignoct onshot fic that felt ridiculously obvious as an idea when I wrote it. It's fun, popular and I'm fond of it.

2. The obscure early one no one bought at the time: Of the several options, I’m gonna choose Across Two Halves Of The World, which I love, which I think has some of my best writing in, and which is my least popular fic ever, because it’s fic for Last Remnant and it’s David/Qubine and really only my wife and I are here for that particular combination.

3. The "experimental" one, written when you were possibly on some substance: Probably An Expansion of Horizons, which is for Valvrave, and for an obscure pairing (H-neun/X-eins), and which I think wasn’t really a successful experiment -- but, enh, still fun to write.

4. The slushy one: I guess slushy means... soppy? saccharinely romantic? In which case, I’ll go with The Sweetest Blend, which is FFXV, Ignoct, and is very fluffy and soft.

5. The brash, loud one, mid album: So many candidates, but I'm going with Euphonious, which has no shame and which is FFXV, Ignoct and Promptio -- and hey, the story is sort of about volume anyway.

6. The one born of your depressive introspection: Cold Comfort, an unhappy David/Rush (The Last Remnant) fic where I -- unusually for me in TLR fandom -- did not give these boys a happy ending.

7. The bitter one about your ex/former manager/cat: That’d be Into The Sun, which was immensely cathartic in many ways. It’s Yagyuu/Niou, Prince of Tennis, and it’s not quite bitter but it is heavily based on events in my past.

8. The one only you like, you insular weirdo: Perfect, or nearly as good as, which is fic for A League Of Their Own (the baseball movie), focused on Mae and a poly relationship with her two biggest fans. I think it’s cute.

9. The genre-hopping crossover hit: Hit is a strong word, but the popularity of Connect was far higher than I expected for Persona 4/Prince of Tennis crossover fic. But it just made sense in my head, so.

10. The one where you tried to be "modern": maybe the first fic I published, actually, which is Cages. Prince of Tennis, Yagyuu/Niou, makes absolutely no sense if you don’t know the canon, and I never wrote anything quite like it again.

11. The anthemic final track: It really has to be The Stars, Reflected, which is my most popular one by a long margin, and which I continue to accrue kudos and comments on. FFXV and Ignoct again. It really seems to have resonated a lot with people. I had fun writing it.

AO3 meme, taken from several people and updated as I copy over to here! Go to your ao3 works page and expand all filters to answer the questions.

So, out of 84 fics currently posted on my AO3:

What’re your first and second most common work ratings?
E (Explicit) 38 and T (Teen and Up) 24).

What’s your most common archive warning?
No Archive Warnings Apply (47) followed by Chose Not To Warn (27). Actual warning? Underage, 12, mostly because of Prince of Tennis stuff.

Least common?
I have no Graphic Depictions Of Violence or Rape/Non-con.

Do you consider yourself an adventurous writer?
Not especially? I do try new things often but I don't often do things that are WILDLY outside my comfort zone.

How many fics have you written in each pairing category?
M/M (76)
F/M (5)
Gen (3)
Multi (3)
Other (2)
F/F (1)

Is this more accidental, or do you have preferences?
I definitely have preferences, but mostly it's the traditional 'women in a lot of media are written more thinly and less satisfyingly than men' issue.

What are your top 4 fandoms by numbers?
Final Fantasy XV (45)
Tennis no Oujisama | Prince of Tennis (24)
The Last Remnant (9)
Persona 4 (5)

Are you still active in any of them, and do you tend to migrate a lot?
I'm pretty active still in FFXV, and I wouldn't rule out writing more TLR fic!

What are your top 4 relationship tags?
Noctis Lucis Caelum/Ignis Scientia (39)
Niou Masaharu/Yagyuu Hiroshi (11)
David Nassau/Rush Sykes (7)
Sanada Genichirou/Yukimura Seiichi (5)

Does this match how you feel about the characters, or are you puzzled?
It's a little surprising there's that much SanaYuki, but otherwise... enh, it's about right?

What are your top 2 most used additional tags, and your bottom 2?

Post-Canon (5)

Then a three-way tie:

Infidelity (4)
Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence (4)
Fluff (4)

At the bottom is:
Future Fic (2)
Underage Drinking (2)
Spoilers (1)
Gambling (1)

...which is very nearly a total list of ALL my additional tags. :D

What would happen if you combined all 4 of these into a fic?
Some really debauched fluff?

How many WIPs do you have currently running on AO3? Any you don’t plan on finishing?
Excluding my compilations of short-fics and drabbles, I have 1 WIP for Prince of Tennis and 1 for Persona (neither are getting finished, ngl), and three for FFXV that I have the best of intentions to finish!

I'm suffused with a concept for one of the two last zines I'm in, and I have a solid idea of what I want to do for the other one too. :D Huzzah!

In other news I'm spending a lot of time churning over Ignoct ideas with my wife. <3
sekiful: (final fantasy xv)
Accepted into the last zine I applied for! That's it for applications (and should be for a while unless something truly amazing gets mooted because I need to work on non-zine things one of these days). Looking at my records I've been accepted into 9 out of the 11 zines I applied for, which is a nice ego-massaging figure, and only one of those -- so far -- has failed to make it to print.
sekiful: (Default)
I was accepted for one of the two remaining zines I applied for! I'm excited; it only requires quite a short piece, but the topic is awesome. The other zine hasn't closed applications yet, and since interest seemed low it's possible the zine might not even run.

(I was also tempted to apply for the art history zine, but I've cut myself firmly off on zines for now. Enough.)

Sagefire's pick-up has been gratifying! It's going to be so beautiful and the merch looks great too; I don't think anyone will be disappointed if they buy it.

I finished my regency dress and coat; I read more books; I have finished another playthrough of Heaven's Vault. Currently we're in a DIY blitz; changing our curtains, putting up shelves, reorganising drawers. And I'm trying to get a bullet journal started again. :D
sekiful: (final fantasy xv)
Gosh, I haven't posted in ages.

Last up I had been accepted in the fourth of four zines; I have now finished all those zine pieces! The zines I'm in are:

[twitter.com profile] SagefireZine (Ignis focused, and now available for preorder at [etsy.com profile] SagefireZine!)
[twitter.com profile] cosmogonyzine (a retelling of the history of Eos)
[twitter.com profile] ffxvmusiczine (music-focused)
[twitter.com profile] luciannights (Noir-themed)

I've also applied for a couple of other zines, and have yet to hear back!

Otherwise, I've been sewing (a regency outfit for a party this weekend) and playing games! Lately I've enjoyed The Sexy Brutale and Heaven's Vault.

I've also been reading, mostly m/m romance (Jordan L Hawk, Eden Finlay).
sekiful: (final fantasy xv)
Accepted into a fourth zine! My plan is to spend most of Saturday writing my various pieces -- my wife can do her sewing, and I can try and progress through at least some of the many fics I am now obligated to write. And just in case that sounds sour, it isn't -- having this many zines to write for is a good problem, not a bad one. I like the concepts I'm writing, and I am pretty sure I can do them justice. :D
sekiful: (Default)
I'm currently making a Regency gown and coat for an event soon (not a cosplay, just for dress-up purposes) and if I have time I might make an 1890s dress too. We'll see how we go.

My zines are progressing! I've written quite a bit of my music piece, and for my Cosmogony piece I have researched a bunch of info on what should in fact happen to a planet during IDK, at least eight years of darkness (spoiler: Square Enix was wildly optimistic) and so that's moving too.

The collaborators on the third zine I'm in get announced tomorrow, so I can be more hyped, but I have a solid idea of what to write for the piece there.
sekiful: (Default)
Managed to write ~1600 words for zines tonight, mostly on my Regalia Mixtape piece. I'm feeling good about it so far! I've also started up my Cosmogony piece. Need to consider how pessimistic I want to be with it, because at the moment it's very dark. We'll see.
sekiful: (Default)
I posted my fic, Glorious, for the Ignoct White Day Gift Exchange!

I've also just applied for the FFXV Tarot Zine!

Minami was great but exhausting. I wore my Love Nikki cosplay, judged the Masquerade, saw my friends and cuddled my Ignis dakimakura during the cold nights. :)
sekiful: (final fantasy xv)
Current FFXV zine statuses: I got my concept signed off for Cosmogony -- after some negotiation with another author who wanted to tackle similar themes for that era -- so I can start on that! I've also signed up for Sagefire (Ignis-themed), Ever At Your Side (friendship-themed), the as-yet-untitled Music zine, Lucian Nights (Noir-themed). Which is a lot, but I don't expect to make it into all of them, and if I do the pieces can be quite short for most of them. I am also tempted by the Tarot-themed zine that just got announced, but since signups don't open for that for a couple of weeks, I'll see what my acceptance status is for some of the others first. :D

I need to finish my White Day exchange fic before anything else, though!
sekiful: (final fantasy xv)
I've applied for a few more FFXV zines: an Ignis-centric one (I really want to get into that), a music-centric one that seems interesting, and a friendship-focused one that I applied for one a whim. There's an interesting Noir-themed one accepting admissions soon, so I might put in for that one if I hear any negatives back from the others. If I get into them all, well, uh... I might be okay, actually? We'll see.

(Though I really need to get cracking on my Cosmogony piece -- I know the era, and I know what I want to write, basically spill out all the logistics and practicalities of how to keep people alive during ten years of NO SUNLIGHT, in the form of a very biased history text -- so if the mods approve it, I can set off.)

Meanwhile: just hit WK level 7!
sekiful: (final fantasy xv)
I've been accepted for the Cosmogony zine, which is a FFXV zine that is designed to ape a history text, covering a range of 'eras' around the FFXV verse (from the distant past to the just-post-game). I'm excited to see what I get assigned!

(My Valentine's Day was great; my wife and I talked about Ignoct for much of it. :D)
sekiful: (japanese)
Just hit WK level 6, after a solid two days of having 88% of my kanji cleared (you need 90% to progress to the next level). It's okay. Things aren't sticking that well in my brain -- not as well as last time -- but I'm persisting.

I have been reading, instead of writing: first the fabulous Whyborne and Griffin series by Jordan L Hawk (I'd like book 11 now please) and then KJ Charles's latest, Any Old Diamonds, which was also great, and now I'm finally getting around to Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and that's great in a slightly painful way.

(Need to write a fic for White Day, but that's okay.)

It's nearly Valentine's Day! I have written nothing for it, but I'm looking forward to celebrating with my wife: the plan is Lego Movie 2 and a nice dinner locally.
sekiful: (final fantasy xv)
Got my Ignoct White Day gift assignment! My assignee gave me good prompts and told me to go wherever I wanted with them. :D

I just hit Wanikani level 5! I know this level is a killer, very slow-going, but it's still a good progress market.

I also just downloaded Torii to my phone. It's a project by a WK user, for Japanese vocab learning via SRS, and it's customisable to, for instance, just the JLPT level 5 vocab, or JLPT levels without WK-covered items. I've not started it up yet; I wanna get further into WK first, but at first glance it seems pretty cool.
